The Nanafalia School was constructed in 1928 to serve the children of the small river community of Nanafalia in southern Marengo County. The school operated as the community’s public school for more than three decades and became an important social and educational center for the area. The building remained in use until May 1961, when the school was closed as part of the consolidation of smaller rural schools in Marengo County. After its closure, Nanafalia students were transferred to Sweet Water High School. The Nanafalia School building has been well maintained and is still in good condition. It is located in southwestern Marengo County in the community of Nanafalia (Google Maps – 32.112694, -87.991036).
