Alabama Rural Heritage Center at Thomaston, AL

The Alabama Rural Heritage Center is located on Hwy 25 at Thomaston, Alabama in the renovated Home Economics Building of the old Marengo County High School.  Students at Auburn University’s Rural Studio at Newbern, AL designed this facility and handled its construction.

The ARHC is a non-profit center that’s dedicated to the mission of preserving Alabama’s rural heritage. The center has a gift shop that contains traditional art and crafts from across Alabama. Each item is truly a unique, one-of-a-kind work of art. There is a Pepper Jelly Wall leading into the gift shop. Pepper Jelly is the specialty product of the Mama Nem’s Bistro restaurant which is also located at the Center. The restaurant is open to groups by appointment. The Rural Heritage Center also features special events such as plays, luncheons, seminars. classes, and other activities highlighting Alabama’s rural heritage.
