This home was built by the Vaughan family, one of the earliest families to settle in Wilcox County. The age of this house is unknown, but it is thought to have been built around 1830. This house is a simple one-story cottage constructed throughout with heart pine. The exterior of the house has never been painted. It along with a barn and small cabin are located on a 7.79-acre property.

Mrs. Pearlie Smith lived in this home since the 1960s as a caretaker of the property. She named the house “Broken Arrow”. A 1966 life estate agreement from the Fred Vaughn Trust allowed Mrs. Pearlie to continue to reside in the house until her death. The Vaughan house and property were donated to the Wilcox Historical Society in 2017. The Wilcox Historical Society continued the agreement to allow Mrs. Pearlie to reside in the house until her death. The deed to the Wilcox Historical Society stipulated that the home and all appurtenances must remain on the property assuring that this historic property will be preserved. Following the death of Mrs. Pearlie in December 2021, the property was placed on the market for sale and sold to Linda Baird and Woody Goode. The sale was closed in March 2023 and Linda and Woody began restoration of this house.

This is a private residence – drive by only.
