This Baptist congregation was founded in 1840 and the present church sanctuary was built around 1850. Features of this building include a slave gallery and an open belfry. Today, this church sanctuary is flanked by two smaller and similar church buildings that were added later. Pleasant Hill Baptist Church was added to the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage on November 2, 1990. It is included in the Alabama’s Tapestry of Historic Places 1978 published by the Alabama Historical Commission.
