This Rural Southwest Alabama website is for twelve counties located in southwest Alabama which include the southwestern corner of Alabama’s Black Belt region. The area is famous for great Southern food, hospitality, a rich and diverse heritage, historic homes and churches, beautiful landscapes, and endless outdoor recreation opportunities. Beautiful rivers and lakes crisscross this region of Alabama. This area is known for its many parks and natural forests.

The purpose of this website is to provide a preview of rural southwest Alabama. Included are pictures of historic and scenic sites in the counties located in this area of Alabama. A brief description is provided for each site along with its location.

This website is a searchable database.  All of the sites that have been added to this website are displayed on the Region Map.  The database is searchable by County, Town, Attraction Type or by typing key words in the search window.

Zoom in on towns to view all sites. “Mouse” across the pointers on the map to obtain the name of the sites. Click on the pointers to access details about the sites and their locations.

NOTE:  Many of the historic homes included are privately owned.  Unless a home is specifically designated as open to the public, it should be considered a private residence.  These homes should only be viewed from the roadway.  Tourists should take necessary precautions to ensure that the home occupants are not disturbed.
