Coretta Scott King’s Childhood Home & Memorial near Marion, AL

Coretta Scott King (1927-2006) grew up on the farm of her parents, Obadiah “Obie” Scott and Bernice McMurray Scott, located north of Marion near the community of North Perry.  The Scott family attended Mt. Tabor AME. Zion Church located next door to their home. Today, there is an 8-foot bronze statue located in front of the Mt. Tabor Church honoring Mrs. King.

Coretta Scott and Martin Luther King, Jr., were married on June 18, 1953, on the lawn of the Scott home; the ceremony was performed by Martin Luther King, Sr.

The Scott home is located approximately 10 miles north of Marion on Highway 29 (GPS coordinates 32.745697, -87.365767).  The Mt. Tabor Church is approximately 150 yards south of the Scott home.
